Why I Stopped

It has been well over a year since I last posted to this blog.

I have tried time and time again to come back to it but never get further than the first few lines.

For a long time I haven’t been able to figure out why…until now. Continue reading

I am such an idiot! I started writing this at the start of June and then kind of forgot to finish it, and when I finally remembered to finish it I realised I hadn’t saved it! Noooo! I’m so good at this. Let’s try this again!…

May has been a better month for me. It really started to feel like summer time with the longer days and the unusually hot weather we have had. Its amazing how a bit of sunshine can totally change your state of mind and lift your spirits. Continue reading

Cut The Crap | 4 Weeks Later

As I enter into week five of cutting the crap out of my life I am feeling pretty damn proud of myself.  Don’t get me wrong I am by no means a health freak all of a sudden but I think I have done pretty well at resisting temptation to have a junk food snack.

Has it been difficult? Honestly not really. The first couple of weeks were a little bit, not because I was craving  junk food but because my body was adjusting to a healthier diet. I had a lot more energy but my tummy was not happy with me. That’s all I will say on that subject.

I definitely relied a lot on alternative snacks that first couple of weeks. So although I was eating healthier snacks, I was just eating way too many of them. I think I am getting that under control now though. I really am trying to only eat when I am hungry and not when I am bored. So if I feel hungry, or what I perceive to be hunger, I go get a drink or start doing something to distract myself for a little while, rather than just go and get a snack straight away.

My biggest achievement is most definitely the fact that over the four weeks I have only had 4 packet of crisps. One a week! I swear before I would have had at least one a day on most days. Crisps have always been my downfall, I just love them. At the beginning of this challenge I decided I would allow myself one packet a week because to completely ban myself from eating them would only make me want them all the more. So at the start of each week I would decide on a packet to get for the week and they would be there when I decided to have them, but once they were gone they were gone. Surprisingly I made it to the Saturday on a couple of weeks before I ate them. Best of all I haven’t found myself craving them! I haven’t even bought the packet for this week yet.

I’m now sitting in a park ( an almost completely deserted one) on a lovely sunny day. I’m out walking….yep you read right…I’m out on a walk! We have had such good weather recently and I want to make the most of it. So I’ve picked up my camera and driven to where I grew up and I’m having a bit of a walk / photography session. I’ve stopped for a little break and thought I would do some writing. It’s so quiet, there’s just the sound of the odd car going by and the birds in the trees it’s lovely.  Most importantly though I’m not at home indoors stuffing my face! Yey me!

In terms of weight loss there is nothing spectacular happening I think I’ve lost 4/5 pounds, I forget what I weighed to start with. I knew I should have written it down! I’m actually quite happy with that amount though, I would rather it came off slowly and stayed off to be honest. As long as I can see small changes happening then I’m happy.

So all in all I would say a successful 4 weeks. I still have a long way to go before I can say I have a healthy diet but baby steps seems to be the way to go for me. I’m gonna keep it up as long as I can and start working on sorting out my meals as well as my snacks. Honestly so far there is no temptation to quit which is good normally I would be given up by now.

Do you have any tips for a healthy diet and lifestyle?

Sourced Box | May

If you read my post Cut The Crap you will know that I am trying to eat a lot healthier these days and have replaced my unhealthy snacks with healthier options. I have been getting Sourced Box for a while now but this month I am more excited than ever to receive it because I really am enjoying discovering new snacks and eating that bit healthier. I think it is so easy to stick with one thing when you find something you like but that’s never a good idea because when you get bored of it it is too tempting to go back to the unhealthy options. It’s definitely important for me to have plenty of variety.

What’s in this months box? Continue reading

It’s the 10th of May! What? I feel like I fell asleep and missed half of April. I swear this year is flying by so fast. Why is it the older you get the quicker time goes?

I feel as though I didn’t have time to even think about what I wanted to do last month never mind actually do anything. It was pretty much just a chilled month. The picture of Nugget above says it all really. To be honest I think I hit a bit of a rock bottom in terms of having no motivation and just not having the energy to do anything. That’s exactly how I don’t want to be though and luckily I seem to have come out of that down spell. Continue reading

Cut The Crap

It’s about time I cut the crap out of my life.

For what seems like as long as I can remember I have struggled with my weight. You see I would say my biggest problem is definitely snacking. I try to eat healthy meals, the majority of the time, but I let myself down with my snacking. I just can’t seem to help myself. When I’m bored I snack, when I’m sad I snack, when I have achieved something I reward myself with a snack. My relationship with food is so unhealthy it’s ridiculous.

I just can’t get myself to a healthy weight and stay there. For a while I decided I just had to deal with the fact that I was always going to be bigger, that’s rubbish. Why accept it? I know I can do something about it. It’s going to take hard work but I have decided now is the time to cut the crap.

I really don’t believe in diets, or depriving yourself of anything. It just doesn’t work, not for me anyway. I have tried so many diets and as soon as I tell myself I’m not allowed something I crave it. I really think diets are only ever a short term solution. I just need to figure out how this healthy balanced thing works.

It might take me a while but I am definitely trying to take a step in the right direction at least.  That first step is to swap out my snacks. I’m not saying I will never have a packet of crisps again but as much as possible if I really feel the need to snack I am going to choose a healthy option.

Obviously fruit is always a good choice of snack, however it does get a bit boring and often ends up sitting until it goes off, so I have picked up some snacks that make it a bit more exciting, and cost me less in wasted food.

I’ve got some some freeze dried, some air dried, and god knows what else dried fruit and veg. I freaking love the Nothing But. snacks, especially the pineapple and grape ones…soooo yummy.

I’m obsessed with coconut snacks and the salted caramel ones are amazing.

Some random bits here. I guess these are kind of my cake alternatives.

Ok I may have gone overboard with the Pana Chocolate, but it will be rationed I promise. At least its not as bad as normal chocolate though. Honestly this is the best raw chocolate I have tried. It is a little bit pricey but I promise it is worth it.

I have to say, when I think about it, I have discovered a lot of these healthy snacks through Sourced Box, so if you are looking for something new to try definitely check them out.

So today has been my first day of trying to stick to my new healthy balanced diet and so far so good. The first few days are always the easiest though aren’t they? I haven’t actually had all that many snacks at all and the ones that I have had have been healthy ones so yey me! One day down, rest of my life to go 🙂

Are you a snacker? Any healthy snack recommendations?
